10 + Best Isekai Anime to Watch Right Now
Isekai is a genre of anime in which a character gets teleported/summoned/reborn into another world. It is a very popular genre of anime and every season we get to see at least one isekai anime that gets everyone hyped. In this list that I have compiled, I have tried to include all kinds of sub-genres of isekai anime, comedy, action, adventure and more. Also, the anime in this list is not in any specific order FYI. Now without any further ado, here is my list of best isekai anime of all time.
1. Shield Hero (Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari)
The Shied Hero is one of the best isekai anime (if not best) which came out in 2019. Naufumi, the main protagonist of this anime, is summoned as the Shield Hero. Along with him, the other 3 heroes, spear hero, hero & the bow hero, together called the cardinal heroes were also summoned to Melromarc. Unfortunately, not late after his arrival, Naufumi was famed by Princess Malty, who was his only party member. He was charged guilty of assaulting the princess and was left with nothing but his shield. The story follows the adventures of Naufumi and his party as they roam around kingdoms fighting waves as they appear and try to regain the Naufumi’s honor as the shield hero.
2. Inuyasha
Inuyasha is a story about a girl named Kagome Higurashi who gets dragged into a different era called the Sengoku Period by a demon. Upon arrival, Kagome finds a boy named Inuyasha bound to an old tree by an arrow. In order to save herself from the demon who was chasing her, she frees Inuyasha, the half dog-demon boy who was tied to the tree. During their battle, one of the bad demons finds the sacred jewel which was hidden inside kagome’s body and tries to steal it. But instead, they were able to stop the demon and the jewel gets shattered into many pieces. Which Kagome and Inuyasha have to find before they fall into wrong hands.
3. Konosuba
Konosuba is one of the best comedy isekai anime in my opinion. It is a story about a boy named Kazuma who did nothing but played video games all day long in his room. One day when he decided to go out to buy a new-released videogame, he dies while saving a girl being hit by a truck. After his tragic death, a goddess named Aqua asks him if he wants to re-live his life in a new world. Kazuma accepts her offer and when asked what he would like to take with him to assist him in his journey, he chooses the goddess herself, Aqua. He chooses her because he thought she would help him greatly during his adventures. But his decision proved wrong as he soon learned that aqua is nothing more than trouble. Kazuma is now stuck with a party consisting of a crusader knight who enjoys taking ‘damage’, a mage who only knows explosion magic, & a useless goddess.
4. Overlord
Overlord anime series is based on the novels of the same name written by Kugane Maruyama. Yggdrasil once was a popular Virtual Reality MMO that decided to shut down its services after being online and having an active & a loyal player-base for more than a decade. The game was about to shut down forever, Momonga and few remaining active members of the clan named Ainz Ooal Gown decided to log in one last time and stay until the game servers go offline. But Momonga’s, even after the servers shut down still stays connected, unable to logout. He was stuck in the game and to his surprise, the NPC characters have become self-aware. He decides that he will stay in the game and search for other players still logged in the game. As of wiring this post, overlord had a total of 3 seasons aired with a ‘high chance’ of season 4 by the end of 2020.
5. Cautious Hero
Cautious Hero was of the best isekai anime of 2019 after shield hero in my opinion. Ristarte, who is a goddess has been charged with the selection of a hero for their world. She was not satisfied by the list of the heroes than she was provided with but then stumbles upon the details of Seiya Ryugin. Ristarte was surprised by his stats, they were many folds higher than others, she chooses Seiya over others. But when the hero arrives the goddess was surprised, despite being so powerful, he was very cautious with everything, even when dealing with her. This anime has a good plot, good action scenes and some comedy here and there, overall very good and a must-watch for any isekai fan.
6. Drifters
While fighting at the Battle of Sekigahara, a critically injured Toyohisa Shimazu finds himself teleported to an unfamiliar location. He was not dead but was transported to a different world. This world was different from his own. The surroundings were different and other creatures such as elves and demi-humans were also there. Soon Toyohisa also discovered that he was not the only one from his world to be pulled into this fantasy world. Several other great warriors form his own world & from different eras, supposedly long gone were also there. The art style of Drifters is a little different from other anime, & there are more still scene than action scenes but this is what makes this anime great. There are 14 episodes to this anime and no news on when season 2 is going to air.
7. Re Zero
Life was going well for Subaru Natsuki, who did nothing but play videogames all day long. One night when he returned home from a convenience store visit, he unexpectedly gets teleported to another world. Not long after getting here, he suddenly gets attacked by a bunch of mobs. While trying to get away, Subaru, along with a girl named Satella, gets killed by mobs. But to his surprise, a few movements later, the same scene is happening again in front of his eyes. The Story progresses greatly from here as he learns secrets about his mysterious ‘power’ and why this all was happening to him.
8. No Game no Life
In the gaming world, Sora and Shiro go by the name blank (_), which is believed to be a legendary group of gamers, but in reality, all the characters are controlled by the bro & sis duo. One day they receive a strange email, which was challenging them for a match of chess. The brother and sister duo wins the challenge and are offered to live in Disboard, a world where matters are solved by games. When they arrive in Disboard they take part in a tournament to determine the next ruler of Elkia and win it. After winning Elkia, they want to conquer all sixteen species that live in Disboard so they can challenge Tet, the God who rules this world of games.
9. Devil is a Part-Timer
During a fight, Hero Emila and her subordinates chase Demon Lord Satan to another world. Upon their arrival, Demon Lord, (who decided to go by the name of Sadao Mao in this new world), accompanied by his general Alciel, take human forms in order to not get spotted. Also as their demon powers do not work here and no way of returning back to their world, Sado decides to find a job and earn money in order to survive in this new world. One day a girl confronts him on his way back to his ‘base’. To his surprise, it is none other than Hero Emila who has followed them here. If you are looking for a serious isekai to watch then you should probably not watch this anime. But, if you are looking for a fun, 12 episode isekai anime which is fun to watch, the Devil is a Part-Timer for you.
10. Grimgar
Imagine waking up in a foreign world with memories of only your name. This is exactly what happened with Haruhiro and dozens of other people. They suddenly wake from slumber, with no memories of their past or where they came from. Upon their arrival, they were given an option to join an army as soldiers under the command of a person named chief Britney. But unfortunately, all slots were quickly taken by men more capable of the job than them. Now they only had one option left, form a band and stick together for the survival of their group. The story follows their adventures as they try to survive while dealing with the harsh reality of this world of grimgar.
11. Spirited Away
On their way to their newly acquired house, Chihiro and her parents get lost and end up near the entrance of an abandoned tunnel. They decide to take a look inside and to their surprise, there was an abandoned amusement park on the next side. Despite not wanting to go inside, 10 years old Chihiro decides to follow her parents as she was getting a strange vibe from the park and its surroundings. Sometime later, her parents find a food stall full of delicious food. There was no one at the stall but despite this, her parents gave in and decided to dig into the food. At dawn, after eating too much food from the stall, her parents both turn into pigs. Upon arriving on the stall, Scared and startled Chihiro starts running. After a turn of events, the girl finds out that she has been trapped in this spirit world; And the only way to survive & find a way out is to become a part of this world.

12. Log Horizon
Elder Tale is a very popular MMORPG with millions of active players from all over the world. Shiroe, a boy who has been playing the game for years was one day waiting for a massive update to arrive in Elder Tale. But as this update hit this popular MMORPG, thousands of players who were logged in at that time find themselves transferred into the fantasy world of Elder Tale. Shiore now has to regroup with his in-game friends in order to figure out why they were trapped inside the game and how to survive in this foreign world.
13. How not to Summon a Demon Lord
It is a story about Takuma Sakamoto, a teenage boy who was one of the strongest players currently in the MMORPG game CrossReverie. But the same could not be said about him in real life. He was a shut-in and barely makes any contact with the outside world. That all was going to change when one day he was suddenly transported to another world. He was summoned by two girls named Rem & Shera as a servant. But their spell gets deflected by one of the magical artifacts that he had and they end up as servants of Takuma. Takuma now decides to help these two girls while also finding a way to remove their ‘slave collars’.
14. Familiar of Zero
Zero no Tsukaima or Familiar of Zero is one of my favorite isekai anime series. Louise Françoise Le Blanc de La Vallière or Louise is a mage who casts void magic and is not particularly good at it. For this reason, she is referred to as Louise the zero by her classmates. The first-year students of the academy have to summon a familiar as a ritual of the ceremony. A familiar which is usually a magical creature or beast acts as their partner. But instead of summoning a ‘beast’ familiar like other students, she summons Saito Hiraga, a teenage boy from Japan. The story follows their adventures on how they save the city from various threats & mischievous people.

This concludes my list of best isekai anime. It took me a long time to compile, write and post this article, so a share would be apricated.
